New From Maggie Rogers – “On and Off”

by Malachi Weaver

“I’ve spent my whole life making quiet music,” Maggie Rogers told BBC Radio 1. “I’m really, really excited to be a little loud.

Rogers took to BBC Radio 1 to share her single “On and Off,” from her debut EP Now That The Light Is Fading. As she puts it, “It’s a song you can dance to and a song you can get down to, but for me there’s a lot of heart and soul in it, too.”

She also explained that for her, the song has a deeper meaning than what one might hear on the first listen. “There’s a sort of sexual cliché in the song,” she says. “There’s a lyric that says ‘You turn me on’ but if you listen to the rest of the lyrics, that is actually about emotional stability. Being on and off and finding a person that grounds you. Because I think that’s one of the things that’s most important to me in relationships.”
