Donald Glover Hints That Next Gambino Album Will Be His Last

by Malachi Weaver June 6, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

Donald Glover’s performance as Childish Gambino at Governor’s Ball last weekend left people talking in more ways than one. Despite putting on quite the performance, Glover left the crowd in a daze when he announced: “I’ll see you for the last Gambino album.”

Glover just released his third album as Childish Gambino, “Awaken, My Love!”, towards the end of 2016, and a collaboration between him and Chance the Rapper has been rumored to be in the works for a while, so it may be a while before the final Gambino album comes our way.

Hawaii then LA, back to work. #roscoeswetsuit

Outside of music Glover is also busy in his acting career. He is playing a lead role in the upcoming Star Wars Han Solo origin movie and playing Simba in the live adaptation of The Lion King. Most recently, Glover was featured in the trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming, although his role in that movie is currently unclear.

written by Malachi Weaver

In this clip from The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Thundercat can be seen performing “Show You The Way” from his most recent album, Drunk. The song features Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins, both of whom joined Thundercat on stage.

Thundercat recently talked with Red Bull about how the original collaboration came together. After first reaching out to Loggins, Thundercat recalled that “the first question he asked me was, ‘Are you joking?’ It was a weird moment. He was like, ‘Are you serious about working with me?’ I was like, ‘Absolutely.’ He opened up to it and he listened to the music.

“He listened to the music and he calls me back and he goes, ‘I’m listening to your music, man. You sound very jazz influenced. Are you into Mahavishnu Orchestra?’ I was like, ‘Yeah.’ He literally goes, ‘OK, I’m going to call Michael McDonald because I think that this would be a good chance to get him involved, because he’s also that kind of person.’” Read the full interview here.

Denzel Curry and BadBadNotGood Rework ‘Ultimate’ and ‘Sick and Tired’ In Live Studio Session

by Malachi Weaver June 1, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

Denzel Curry recently teamed up with BadBadNotGood to rework two of his hits, including his 2014 classic “Ultimate” and his 2016 “Sick and Tired.”

Although not released until yesterday (May 31), Curry and BBNG collided in a studio session back in March. Curry told The Fader in an email that doing a studio session like this is something he’d wanted to do for a while.

“I’ve wanted to experiment with performing my music with a live band for a while now. I first heard of BADBADNOTGOOD from this live session they did with Tyler [The Creator] a few years ago. We got a chance to link up in the studio while they were out in L.A. and the rest was history.

“This means a lot to me because I get to hear my music re-imagined through live instruments and it’s a bonus for my fans who are into other genres. It was a challenge trying to nail that same energy but I think we did it. I may experiment with it more moving forward, I’d love to work with them again on something original.”

Check out the “Ultimate (BADBADNOTGOOD SESSIONS)” video below, as well as Curry’s recently announced European tour dates. The tour is currently going from November 21 to December 07, with “more dates to be announced.”
