First Aid Kit Releases New Song for International Women’s Day: Listen

by Malachi Weaver March 8, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit shared a new song today in support of women’s rights and for today being International Women’s Day.

The song is called “You Are the Problem Here.” In a statement, First Aid Kit explained that they wrote the song “after reading about yet another rape case where the perpetrator was handed a sentence which did not at all refelect the severity of his crime.”

Listen to the track and read the full statement below. “You Are the Problem Here will be released digitally on Friday (Mar. 10), and all of the song’s proceeds will go to Women for Women International.

First Aid Kit’s Klara and Johanna Söderberg:

Today is the International Women’s Day and the theme of the year is #BeBoldForChange. “You Are the Problem Here” isn’t a typical First Aid Kit-song. It’s angry and direct. It’s a song written out of despair. After reading about yet another rape case where the perpetrator was handed a sentence which did not at all reflect the severity of his crime we felt upset and vengeful. We were, and are, sick of living in a society where the victims of rape are often blamed for the horrible thing that has been done to them. Our message is clear and should not be controversial in the least: if you rape, you are the problem. Alcohol is not the problem. So called “youth culture” is not the problem. You are. And you always have a choice.

Over 1000 Musicians Cover “Smells Like Teen Spirit” Together – Watch

by Malachi Weaver February 3, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

Thanks to The Rockin’ 1000, there is now a cover of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” that took over a thousand musicians to make. The group took roughly 1,200 performers (guitarists, singers, bassists, and drummers) to record a live cover, played in an open arena in Italy.

Organizer Fabio Zaffagnini told NME about the project, “The live show has been really, really cool and the feedback we got from the public was enthusiastic so we will probably think about going on and organising other live shows, but we don’t have an idea about where to do that. We’d love to have an experience outside of Italy but we just finished a week ago so… we’re just figuring out what to do next.”

“They all joined this project and took the flight to come over to this tiny town that is Cesena and to perform in front of thousands of people, just like rockstars do. Actually, they’re just normal musicians playing in pubs, but for once in their life, they were in a context that is similar to the one that is generally reserved to rockstars.”

See it for yourself below.

Ben Affleck Responds To “Sad Affleck” Simon and Garfunkel Meme

by Malachi Weaver January 19, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

In an interview with BBC Radio 1 released on Tuesday (January 17), Ben Affleck responded to the “Sad Affleck” video that went viral after the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

“What has a production like Batman v Superman… taught you as a director and an actor?” the interviewer asks Affleck.

“It taught me not to do interviews with Cavill where I don’t say anything and they can lay Simon and Garfunkel tracks over it,” Affleck joked. “That’s one thing I learned.”

The original “Sad Affleck” video shows Affleck and co-star Henry Cavill being asked by a reporter about the “mixed response” from critics towards the movie. While Cavill gives the reporter a lengthy response, Affleck says nothing and looks off camera. The edited video zooms in on Affleck and plays Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” until the reporter asks Affleck for his thoughts and he says only, “I agree.”

See the “Sad Affleck” video below, and watch Affleck’s response above.

Alanis Morissette’s Manager Admits To Stealing Millions From The Singer

by Malachi Weaver January 19, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

Alanis Morissette’s former manager Jonathan Schwartz admitted in a Los Angeles court on Wednesday to stealing $4.8 million from the singer and $2 million more from other clients, BBC reports.

Schwartz and Morissette worked together from 2009 to 2016. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Schwartz’s relationship with Morissette included “collecting income, managing investment accounts and paying bills on her behalf.” Morissette sued Schwartz for fraud in May of 2016, requesting over $15 million in damages. The singer’s suit claimed that Schwartz and the company he worked for “concealed distributions from Morissette, convincing her that she was in tremendous financial shape when, in fact, they were draining her assets and leading her on a road that could have led to financial ruin.”

Howard Grossman, Schwartz’s replacement, found evidence of over 100 removals from the singer’s accounts to Schwartz’s. According to the suit, Schwartz used the money to invest in “one or more illegal marijuana ‘grow’ business.”

“When she asked him if she was over budget, he would insist that things were ‘fine,’ that she had ‘nothing to worry about,’ and that she and her future grandkids were ‘set for life,’” the complaint continues. “His reasoning was always that she didn’t need to work so hard because she was so financially secure.”

BBC reports that Schwartz, appearing in court February 1st, could face four to six years in prison.
