The Weeknd Adds More Dates To Starboy Tour

by Malachi Weaver June 13, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

On Monday night (June 12) The Weeknd added more dates to begin the second phase of his Starboy: Legend of the Fall tour. After headlining next Saturday’s Firefly Festival in Dover, Delaware, The Weeknd will begin a series of European shows before returning to North America, then heading to New Zealand and Australia. The tour is scheduled to go on throughout November.

The Weeknd has spent much of this year on tour. The artist played shows in Europe back in February, with assistance from Bryson Tiller and Lil Uzi Vert. Then, he came back to the United States from more shows across many major cities and brought Rae Sremmurd, Belly, and 6Lack with him.

The Legend of the Fall tour supports The Weeknd’s 2016 Starboy album, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and had the third largest opening sales week of any album that year. Five singles have been released from the album, three of which hit the Top 20 on the Hot 100.

The Weeknd also just released a music video for his song “Secrets,” also from Starboy. Check that out here.

written by Malachi Weaver

Sean “Diddy” Combs has been named this year’s top earner on Forbes’ top 100 highest paid celebrities list.

Forbes says that Diddy earned $130 million between June 1, 2016 and June 1, 2017. Diddy’s Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour, his stake in Ciroc vodka, and a $70 million sale of one-third of his clothing line, Sean John, all contributed to this total, Forbes says.

Beyoncé came in at No. 2 on the list, earning $105 million. J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, came in at No. 3 with $95 million. Drake and Cristiano Ronaldo took spots four and five.

Taylor Swift, who was last year’s No. 1 earner, dropped to No. 49. Swift made $44 million this year, compared to her $170 million last year.

It looks like Kendrick Lamar is filming another music video from his latest album DAMN. A video from a Rihanna fan site seems to confirm that the rapper has begun shooting a video for his Rihanna collaboration “Loyalty.” This would make the third visual to accompany the album, following “Humble” and “DNA”.

The account tweeted a video from the shoot on Saturday (June 10). It appears to show a blindfolded Lamar surrounded by scantily dressed women.

Check it out below.

Def Jam CEO Steve Bartels Confirms New Music From Kanye West Is One The Way

by Malachi Weaver June 8, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

Steve Bartels, CEO of Def Jam, recently did an interview with Variety to discuss upcoming works from artists across the label. Variety went straight to the heavy questions asking what everyone wants to know – is Kanye West really working on new music?

“Let me ask what’s up with several of your artists. Word was that Kanye West was recording by himself somewhere in Utah — is that real?” Variety asked.

“I don’t know if that’s real or not, I read the same things you do. When we talk we don’t really get down to the granular of where he’s going and how he’s flying there, we keep it much more on a broader level. Kanye is working, that’s been widely reported. He’s always very focused, and our relationship with him is that we always have great respect for him and when he’s ready to do something or talk about something, we’re there for him, we totally support his vision and his focus, and that’s where we leave it. I check in with him from time to time just to see how he’s doing. What’s great about our relationship is that I always know when it’s go time — because he wakes me up.”

When asked if new Kayne music might come any time this year, Bartels said, “You never know. He’s always working, so maybe so. It’s never something we’re pushing — it’s always led by the creative side.”

Bartels spent the rest of the interview giving updates on other Def Jam artists including Justin Bieber, Alessia Cara, Vince Staples, and 2 Chainz. Check out the entire interview here.

DJ Khaled Stars in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ NBA Finals Teaser

by Malachi Weaver June 8, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

Spider-Man: Homecoming finally got the DJ Khaled treatment last night when a teaser for the movie featuring the artist aired during the NBA finals.

The promo clip begins with Khaled waiting in line at a convenience store when Tom Holland’s Spider-Man character bumps into him. “You’re DJ Khaled,” the surprised web-slinger begins, and Khaled accordingly responds “You’re Spider-Man! What’re you doing here?”

Spider-man tells Khaled that he is on his way to an NBA Finals watch party, which Khaled knows is hosted by Tony Stark (Iron Man) – because he is going there too.

Right after, when two women standing by the counter ask for a picture, Khaled is surprised to see that they want him to take the picture of them with Spidey, instead of the other way around. Khaled gets to show off his photography skills, using his signature catchphrase, “another one”, every time he took another picture.

Khaled’s next album, Grateful, is set for release later this month and promises a slew of exemplary features. The album’s second single – “I’m the One” featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chace The Rapper, and Lil Wayne – has already gone platinum. The third single, “To the Max,” with Drake, was released Monday morning, and Khaled has since teased more collaborations with Rihanna, Bryson Tiller, Nas, and Travis Scott. Both Jay-Z and Beyoncé should also be on the album, as they performed on the first single, “Shining”.

Kyle Performs iSpy on MTV: Watch

by Malachi Weaver June 7, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

Kyle recently sat down for an interview with MTV, being their Push: Artist to Watch for the month of June, to talk about his stylistic changes as a rapper and to perform his hit song “iSpy.”

“When I first started rapping, I just rapped about what I was taught to rap about. You know, guns, packs, big booties… things like that,” Kyle told MTV. “I was making this one song, and what I had just written was so unbelievably not me that I rapped it and laughed.”

Kyle told MTV that he realized that the traditional rapper mold didn’t fit him, and instead decided to embrace his own “goofy” side.

“I dropped my rapper voice — the voice that’s not really mine — and I heard this voice come out that was just real in that moment,” he said. “I heard it when I played it back, and I was like, that part right there is tight. I was like, I need to do everything with this type of energy from now on… it’s the type of energy I gotta put in all my songs because I feel like it was the way I would just come across authentic.”

The rapper then went on to perform his song “iSpy”, even rapping over Lil Yachty’s verse and occasionally pausing to Milly Rock. Watch the performance below and see MTV’s full profile on Kyle here.

Diplo Re-Releases ‘Bankroll’, This Time Without Justin Bieber

by Malachi Weaver June 7, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

After temporarily being taken down, Diplo’s “Bankroll” has been re-uploaded to Soundcloud. While the song currently contains vocals from Young Thug, Rich Chigga, and Rich The Kid, the original Justin Bieber vocals have been removed.

The original version with Justin Bieber was posted by Diplo back in May, but record labels, he explained, made him take it down.

“Other artists made Soundcloud take down the Justin Beiber [sic] version because they had exclusives with him, you can find it online here tho cause ¯\_(ツ)_/¯,” Diplo wrote in the song description.

Click the link for a free download of the Justin Bieber version, or listen to the official Soundcloud release below.
