Manchester’s Parklife Festival Will Go On Despite Yesterday’s Attack

by Malachi Weaver May 23, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

Parklife, a music festival scheduled to take place in Manchester’s Heaton Park from June 10-11, says that it will still go on as scheduled, despite yesterday’s attack at the nearby Manchester Arena. The festival’s statement echoed Prime Minister Theresa May’s Tuesday speech responding to the attack, saying “We are certain we will not be defeated by such cowardice.”

On the Parklife lineup are acts including Manchester’s own The 1975, Frank Ocean, Run The Jewels, Boy Better Know, Fatboy Slim, Two Door Cinema Club, Jess Glynne, Stormzy and others. A Tribe Called Quest was previously scheduled to perform, but pull out last week after Q-Tip was injured.

Parklife wrote on Twitter that their social media accounts would go silent for the next 48 hours “in sympathy with all those that lost their lives or were injured, physically and/or mentally, by the devastating attack.”

Our thoughts are with those affected by last night's Manchester attack, and the emergency services working tirelessly to keep our city safe.

Rich Chigga Hires Mariachi Band To Serenade Post Malone: Watch

by Malachi Weaver May 11, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

Last weekend during the Rolling Loud festival in Miami, Rich Chigga decided Post Malone needed to be hyped up before taking stage. Chigga used Postmates to hire a mariachi band to cover Malone’s song “Congratulations,” as seen in a video that has since gone viral on the internet.

According to TMZ, Chigga met the band beforehand to rehearse the song, and then they all made their way to Bayfront Park for the surprise. The band was originally supposed to cost Chigga around $350 for a couple of hours, but due to Malone showing up late the tab reportedly ran up towards $900.

Rich Chigga posted a video of the entire transaction onto his YouTube channel with a video titled “How I surprised Post Malone with a mariachi band.” Watch below:

Pregnant Beyoncé Still Planning to Perform at Coachella

by Malachi Weaver February 7, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

Sources are telling TMZ that despite being pregnant with twins, Beyoncé is still planning to perform at the Coachella Music Festival in April. It was announced in January that Beyoncé would headline this year’s festival with Kendrick Lamar and Radiohead, but the singer’s recent pregnancy announcement put many fans in speculation.

TMZ’s report says that Beyoncé has already booked two guest artists to perform with her during the festival and the two artists knew about her pregnancy before the Instagram announcement. While the report does not name the artists, one of them is reportedly signed to Roc Nation. The other, while not a member of Roc Nation, is reportedly “still close to Bey.”

Online speculators figure that Beyoncé is likely four to five months pregnant – based on pictures shared on her official website – and thus she would likely be in the third trimester when Coachella comes around.

See the video for Beyoncé’s “Formation” below, nominated for Record of the Year at the 2017 Grammys, which will take place this Saturday.

Shooting at BPM Festival In Mexico Leaves Five Dead, 15 Wounded

by Malachi Weaver January 20, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

For the past ten years, the BPM Festival has been a staple for fans of electronic music, bringing in around 70,000 participants yearly for the ten day festival in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Unfortunately, the festival’s legacy has now been marred by the mass shooting that happened this past Monday (January 16) at Blue Parrot nightclub. The shooting, which happened on the last night of the festival, left five dead and fifteen wounded.

In light of the shooting, The BPM Festival – and all similar electronic music events – has reportedly been banned from Playa del Carmen.

“At this moment, our general stance is not to allow BPM to perform here,” said Mayor of Solidaridad and President of the Business Coordinating Council of the Riviera Maya Cristina Torres Gómez in a Monday press conference.

According to Run The Trap, a Mexican drug cartel has taken responsibility for the shootings, based on a news report showing a blanket with writing on it, which RTT says is “a common way of sending mass messages by cartels across the country.”

While BPM is currently not allowed to return to Playa del Carmen, the festival announced last week that it will expand to Brazil and Portugal later this year. Updates on the festival can be found at thebpmfestival.com.

Update: Coachella Owner Phillip Anschutz Says Anti-LGBT Reports Are “Garbage”

by Malachi Weaver January 6, 2017
written by Malachi Weaver

Yesterday, owner of Coachella’s parent company Phillip Anschutz broke news when media outlets reported that he used company funds to support anti-LGBT political groups and that he is allegedly a climate change denier.

In response, Anschutz released a statement on Thursday (Jan. 5) calling the assertions “fake news,” pointing to the diversity of his own company as evidence.

Read his full statement here:

“Recent claims published in the media that I am anti-LGBTQ are nothing more than fake news — it is all garbage. I unequivocally support the rights of all people without regard to sexual orientation. We are fortunate to employ a wealth of diverse individuals throughout our family of companies, all of whom are important to us — the only criteria on which they are judged is the quality of their job performance; we do not tolerate discrimination in any form.

“Both The Anschutz Foundation and I contribute to numerous organizations that pursue a wide range of causes. Neither I nor the Foundation fund any organization with the purpose or expectation that it would finance anti-LGBTQ initiatives, and when it has come to my attention or the attention of The Anschutz Foundation that certain organizations either the Foundation or I have funded have been supporting such causes, we have immediately ceased all contributions to such groups.”
